About Us
Early Training & Foundational Exposure

My interest in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology was cultivated during my MD training at UCMS, New Delhi, where I gained initial experience in various hemato-lymphoid malignancies, solid tumors, and benign hematological disorders. The institution’s dedicated oncology ward, along with specialized day-care facilities for thalassemia and hemophilia, provided a strong foundation for my passion in the subject.

Senior Residency & Clinical Practice

As a Senior Resident at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, I worked in the Hematology and Oncology unit, translating my academic training into hands-on clinical practice. I subsequently pursued a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal—a high-volume center managing over 200 oncology and 250 benign hematology cases annually. During this period, I was also actively involved in the care of children undergoing bone marrow transplantation, with 12 transplants performed over 14 months. I received comprehensive training in the field of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology.

Emergency Medicine & Critical Care Expertise

Completing a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine significantly enhanced my ability to manage oncological emergencies, including tumor lysis syndrome, superior vena cava syndrome, spinal cord compression, and febrile neutropenia. This training strengthened my clinical decision-making in high-acuity scenarios and deepened my understanding of supportive care in pediatric oncology. I have also actively participated in national and international conferences, contributing to ongoing academic engagement and professional development.

Tertiary Care & Transplant Experience

Following my fellowship in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, I joined St. John’s Medical College, Bengaluru—a high-volume tertiary care center performing over 30 pediatric stem cell transplants annually for a range of benign and malignant hematological conditions. During my tenure, I gained substantial experience in benign hematological disorders, transplant coordination, peri-transplant care, and long-term follow-up. I was actively involved in managing complex cases including refractory leukemias, lymphomas, hemoglobinopathies, and marrow failure syndromes, further strengthening my expertise in the subject.

Current Experience & Subspecialty Focus

Over the past three years, I have been working at Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital, Bengaluru—a charitable trust hospital managing over 200 pediatric hematology and oncology cases annually. During this period, I developed a focused interest in neonatal hematology, leading me to pursue online formal certification in the specialty from Global Tech University. Since then, I have been actively consulting on neonatal hematology cases, including hemolytic anemia, hemoglobinopathies, cytopenias, thrombotic conditions, and bleeding disorders, contributing to early diagnosis and multidisciplinary management in this vulnerable age group.

Vision & Future Goals

My long-term vision is to establish a dedicated Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit that practices evidence-based medicine and delivers comprehensive, high-quality care to children across all socioeconomic backgrounds. I aspire to create a center that combines clinical excellence with compassionate care, ensuring optimal outcomes and a healing environment for young patients.

A pediatric hematologist specializes in diagnosing and managing blood-related disorders in children. This includes conditions such as anemia, hemoglobinopathies like thalassemia and sickle cell disease, clotting disorders, bone marrow failure syndromes, and immune-related blood conditions. They also manage complex cases requiring long-term monitoring and multidisciplinary care. Early diagnosis and structured treatment are essential to prevent complications and ensure optimal growth, development, and overall health outcomes in children with hematological conditions.

You should consult a pediatric oncologist if a child shows persistent symptoms such as unexplained fever, weight loss, fatigue, unusual swelling, frequent infections, or abnormal blood counts. Pediatric oncologists specialize in diagnosing and treating cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and solid tumors in children. Early consultation allows timely diagnosis, staging, and initiation of appropriate therapy, significantly improving treatment outcomes and long-term survival rates.

A Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), also known as Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT), is a procedure used to replace diseased or damaged bone marrow with healthy stem cells. It is commonly performed for conditions like leukemia, lymphoma, aplastic anemia, and certain genetic blood disorders. The procedure involves pre-transplant conditioning, stem cell infusion, and careful post-transplant monitoring. BMT offers a potential cure in many high-risk or refractory cases.

Stem cell transplantation is recommended for a range of malignant and non-malignant conditions. These include acute and chronic leukemias, lymphomas, bone marrow failure syndromes like aplastic anemia, and inherited disorders such as thalassemia and certain immunodeficiency syndromes. The decision for transplant depends on disease severity, response to prior treatments, and availability of a suitable donor. Early evaluation helps determine eligibility and improves outcomes.

Neonatal hematology focuses on diagnosing and managing blood disorders in newborns. This includes conditions such as hemolytic disease, neonatal anemia, thrombocytopenia, and inherited blood disorders. Early detection is crucial as many of these conditions can impact growth and development if untreated. Specialized care ensures timely intervention, reduces complications, and supports healthy development during this critical stage of life.

Pediatric cancers are treated using a combination of chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and sometimes surgery or radiation, depending on the type and stage of cancer. Treatment protocols are carefully tailored to each child to maximize effectiveness while minimizing side effects. Multidisciplinary care involving oncologists, hematologists, intensivists, and support teams ensures comprehensive management throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.

Hemoglobinopathies are genetic blood disorders that affect the structure or production of hemoglobin. Common examples include thalassemia and sickle cell disease. These conditions can lead to anemia, growth delays, and organ complications if not managed properly. Treatment may include regular blood transfusions, medications, and in some cases, bone marrow transplantation as a potential cure. Early diagnosis and consistent follow-up are essential for optimal outcomes.

Bone marrow failure syndromes occur when the bone marrow does not produce enough blood cells, leading to anemia, infections, and bleeding tendencies. Conditions like aplastic anemia fall under this category. Management may involve medications, immunosuppressive therapy, blood transfusions, or stem cell transplantation in severe cases. Early identification and specialized care are critical to prevent life-threatening complications.

Immunotherapy is an advanced treatment approach that uses the body’s immune system to identify and destroy cancer cells. It is increasingly used in certain pediatric cancers, especially in cases where conventional treatments may be less effective. Immunotherapy offers targeted action with potentially fewer side effects and improved outcomes in selected patients. It is often integrated into comprehensive cancer treatment plans.

Coagulation disorders affect the blood’s ability to clot properly, leading to excessive bleeding or clotting. Conditions such as hemophilia require specialized management, including factor replacement therapy and preventive care. Early diagnosis, regular monitoring, and patient education are essential to prevent complications and ensure a normal quality of life. A multidisciplinary approach helps manage both acute and long-term needs.

Oncological emergencies are life-threatening complications associated with cancer or its treatment. These include tumor lysis syndrome, febrile neutropenia, spinal cord compression, and severe infections. Prompt recognition and immediate medical intervention are crucial to prevent serious outcomes. Specialized centers with expertise in pediatric oncology are equipped to manage these emergencies effectively.

A multidisciplinary approach ensures that all aspects of a child’s condition are addressed comprehensively. Pediatric hematology and oncology care often require coordination between specialists such as oncologists, hematologists, intensivists, infectious disease experts, and rehabilitation teams. This integrated approach improves diagnostic accuracy, treatment effectiveness, and overall patient outcomes while providing holistic support to both the child and family.
